Employ youth without work experience — Mubarak appeals

The acting Co-ordinator of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Mr Ras Mubarak, has appealed to public and private organisations to employ the youth who are without any work experience, to enable them to gain the experience  to prove their worth.

He noted with concern that the preference by organisations and companies to employ people who already had some experience on the job was preventing a large number of qualified youth from being employed and pushing others into anti-social activities.

Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony as the acting co-ordinator  in Accra, Mr Mubarak said although experience played a crucial role in the advancement of any organisation, ultimately, it worked to the disadvantage of any country that rejected the youth simply because they “do not have that experience.”

He was made to swear an oath binding him to follow the laid-down rules and regulation governing the NYA.

Mr Mubarak was appointed the acting national youth coordinator of the NYA by President John Mahama after the substantive national coordinator was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Micro and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC).

Until his appointment, the 34-year-old farmer, freelance media publicist and political consultant was a leading communication’s member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mubarak’s Objective

According to Mr Mubarak, he had the passion to champion the agenda of the youth, particularly those who did not have the support of the society and family to achieve their objectives.

“I have always remained a passionate advocate of issues that affect the youth because if the youth are not offered the needed platform to contribute their quota to national development, the whole nation will not prosper,” he said.

He expressed worry about the increasing rate of youth unemployment, adding that the country had failed to give the youth a chance to prove their worth.

Mr Mubarak pledged that his leadership would create measures for the youth to contribute to national growth and development.

NYA chairperson

The Board Chairperson of NYA, Ms Esther Cobbah, tasked the national coordinator to focus his attention and channel his policies and objectives towards furthering the agenda of the youth.

She said there was the need for the youth to be given training and direction to enable them partner government in the advancement of the country’s economy.

Ms Cobbah, who is also the CEO of Stratcom and the reigning Marketing Woman of the Year, promised that the board would offer its assistance and support to the NYA management in its bid to address the issues hindering the development of the youth.
