Electrician wanted for attempted murder

An Accra circuit court has issued a release for the arrest of Soale Abubakari Yakubu, a 25-year-old apprentice electrician, for attempted murder.

The accused attacked a second-year medical student of the University of Development Studies in Tamale and stabbed her severally on the head and later tied a rope around her head to strangle her.

He has since the attack gone into hiding and all efforts by the police to apprehend him have so far proven futile.

Soale Abubakari YakubuAccording to the Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwa, on January 20, 2014, at about 8:30 a.m., Selma Yakubu Issah, aged 22, a second-year medical student at the Tamale Campus of the UDS, was attacked and wounded by an unknown assailant.

The victim was attacked at her residence at the Tamale SSNIT flats and some good Samaritans managed to rush her to the Tamale Teaching Hospital where she was placed at the Intensive Care Unit and later referred to Accra for further treatment.

ASP Darkwa said investigations so far conducted by the police revealed that the attacker was a relative by name Soale Abubakari Yakubu, a cousin to the victim. 

When the room of the suspect was searched in Tamale after the attack, a microwave believed to have been stolen from the victim’s parents in Accra was found. 

Two stethoscopes belonging to the victim which the suspect sold to a neighbour for GH¢30.00 each have also been retrieved,
