The Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Kwaku Afrifa Yamoah-Ponkoh, has cut the sod for the commencement of work on some development projects in the municipality.The projects come under the Local Government Capacity Support Project (LGCSP).
They include the construction of an emergency accident unit for the Juaben Government Hospital at Asante Juaben and a 14-seater public water closet facility for the people of Domakwai. Jonafku Company Limited and Destex Enterprise are the civil contractors selected to work on the projects.
When completed, the emergency unit will make the Juaben Hospital the second hospital in the Ashanti Region, after the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), to have a special centre to deal with emergency accident cases, particularly vehicular accidents.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony at Juaben, the MCE indicated that the municipality was doing very well when it came to the provision of infrastructure. He said though there were some administrative hiccoughs, the government, through the assembly, was committed to meeting the health needs of the people.
He urged the authorities of the hospital to collaborate with the assembly at all times to ensure that, when completed, the facility would be put to good use. In addition, the MCE said the government was very much concerned about the issue of sanitation.
He, therefore, appealed to the chief in the area for their support, and commended the Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Serebuo II, for his continuous assistance to the assembly.
The Medical Superintendent at the Juaben Government Hospital, Dr Prosper Gbekor, expressed gratitude to the Juabenhene for donating land for the hospital’s expansion. He revealed that the proposed emergency unit would have 14 rooms and be equipped with modern tools and instruments to suit its status as a true emergency centre.
He entreated the people of Juaben to donate more lands to enable the hospital to construct an administration block and a new building for the hospital’s School of Nursing.
Nana Otuo Serebuo, in turn, commended the MCE for initiating the projects, and asked that he continued to do a lot more to improve conditions in the municipality. He asked the hospital authorities to monitor the progress of the construction works to ensure that a good work was done.
At Domakwai, Mr Yamoah-Ponkoh urged the contractor, Mr Joseph Ankomah of Destex Enterprise, to hasten the progress of works on the construction of a public toilet facility, as the project was urgently needed by the community.
Meanwhile, the MCE has directed that the old public toilet be renovated immediately after the completion of the new 14-seater water closet.
The Domakwaihemaa, Nana Ama Dankwa, called on the youth of the community to be involved in communal labour to support the assembly to fight water and sanitation-related problems in the area.
In a related development, the MCE also cut sod for the construction of a public toilet facility at Adumasa.
