The Golden Tulip Kumasi City, in association with the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (ARCC), has donated a number of items to the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre in Kumasi, as part of their corporate social responsibility.
The items included bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, soft drinks, snacks, towels, toilet rolls, television sets and an amount of GH¢1,000.00 being proceeds from a carols night service that was organised in December 2013 by Golden Tulip, Kumasi, in collaboration with the Regional Co-ordinating Council.
The Manager of the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre, Mr Modesto Ibrahim Ayiwole, expressed gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the inmates of the centre to the two organisations for their kind gesture.
According to him, over the years, the centre had been kept going on the support offered by philanthropists, companies and individuals who donated in cash and in kind.
He said the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre catered for persons who were deaf, dumb, blind, physically disabled and those with mental disorders. He said the ages of inmates at the centre ranged from 15 to 40 years.
Mr Ayiwole said the centre, on its own, also engaged in self-supporting ventures by selling various forms of craftwork produced by the inmates, including items such as creations from needle and thread, handicraft, and beads. The inmates also made soap and did hairdressing.
The General Manager of Golden Tulip Kumasi City, Mr Sam Obiri Aduama, was accompanied by other top management members of the hotel and representatives from the Regional Co-ordinating Council.
Mr Aduama commended the leadership of the centre for the good work they were doing and pledged his company’s continued support to the centre.
He called on other corporate organisations to lend their support to the centre in order to guarantee the well-being of the inmates.
