The Electricity Company of Ghana has announced it will soon commence a Nationwide Meter Audit Exercise across all its operational areas to curb electricity theft and reduce commercial losses.
According to a public announcement, the exercise forms part of efforts to improve revenue assurance and combat electricity theft.
The exercise will involve inspecting and verifying all prepaid and postpaid meters, Special Load Tariff installations, and associated wiring to confirm the integrity of metering systems and ensure accurate measurement and billing of electricity consumption.
The ECG stated that the announcement serves as official notice and that no further prior notices, appointment letters, or advance notifications will be issued.
Accordingly, customers, landlords, estate managers, property managers, facility managers, and security personnel have been advised that the absence of a separate notification letter shall not be a basis for denying, restricting, or delaying access to authorised ECG personnel.
The company reminded the public that Regulation 4(h) of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (Customer Service) Regulations, 2020 (L.I. 2413) provides that a consumer shall grant the employee of a public utility or agent access to the premises, subject to the production of a verifiable identity card.
All ECG employees and authorised agents participating in the exercise will carry official ECG identification cards.
Customers are encouraged to verify the identity of field personnel through the following channels before granting them access; the Customer Call Centre Line on 0302 611 611 or by using the *226# USSD Verification Code on all mobile networks.
