This is the second time within two weeks that the police in the region have intercepted large quantities of suspected Indian hemp.

In the first instance the police in Nkawkaw seized 204 bags of the substance at Apesika from 21 household

According to the Eastern Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Edward Farkye – Kumi, on February 20, 2016 at about 1:20 am a police patrol team from Akuse in the Asuogyaman District while on duty along the Kpong-Atimpoku-Tema road had a tip-off that the Benz truck with registration number AW 138 - 15 was carrying Indian hemp from Atimpoku to Accra.

He said the patrol team monitored and intercepted the vehicle at about 5am.

He said an extensive search carried on the vehicle found the suspected Indian hemp parked under 129 bags of poultry feed ostensibly to outwit the police check points on the road

Consequently, the driver, 33-year-old Nicholas Asare was arrested and is currently assisting the police in their investigations.

Chief Superintendent Farkye-Kumi appealed to the general public to support and collaborate with police to nip such activities in the bud.
