President John Mahama has charged Ghana’s new High Commissioner to Canada, Dr Sulley Gariba, to help deepen the ties between the two countries.
Dr Gariba, who until recently was a senior Policy Advisor to the President, was administered the oath of allegiance, the official oath and the oath of secrecy by President Mahama at the Flagstaff House yesterday as he assumes the new role as Ghana’s envoy to Canada.
Handing the scroll of office to the new envoy, President Mahama said Dr Gariba had cultivated special talents in Canada, especially having studied in that country for many years, coupled with his experience of working with Canadian organisations in the past.
He said Ghana and Canada had enjoyed good relations over the years and that Canada, hitherto, was Ghana’s leading trading partner.
“I have no doubt relations with Canada will blossom even further under Dr Gariba,” President Mahama stated, and wished the new envoy well in his new assignment.

Responding, Dr Gariba, who was accompanied by his spouse and senior members of his family, thanked the President for reposing confidence in him.
He assured President Mahama that the education he had acquired in Canada would be put to the benefit of Ghanaians.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the government.
