Dr Frederic Mac-Palm: Accused in alleged coup plot is dead - Sources 

The man accused of being the mastermind of an alleged coup plot, Dr Frederic Mac-Palm, is reportedly dead.

Sources confirmed to the Daily Graphic that the medical doctor collapsed at his home last Saturday and was rushed to a health facility at Dodowa where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Trial 

Dr Mac-Palm was part of a group of 10 persons standing trial for high treason before a three-member panel of the Accra High Court.

The other accused persons are Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dr Benjamin Agordzo, Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli, Bright Alan Debrah Ofosu (a fleet manager), Johannes Zikpi (a civilian employee of the Ghana Armed Forces) and Donya Kafui, aka Ezor (a blacksmith).

The rest - Corporal Seidu Abubakar, Lance Corporal Ali Solomon, Corporal Sylvester Akanpewon and Warrant Officer II Esther Saan Dekuwine - are all soldiers.

The accused persons are in court for allegedly taking part in the activities of Take Action Ghana (TAG), a non-governmental organisation accused by the prosecution of planning to destabilise the country to take over the government.

Dr Mac -Palm had opened his defense and was testifying for himself.

He was expected to be cross-examined by the lawyers of the other accused person tomorrow (Monday, March 27, 2023)at the hearing at the court. 

Prosecution’s case

Prosecutors have accused the 10 of being part of a group known as TAG, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) which is alleged to have planned to embark on demonstrations against the government and “possibly take over the government”.

It is also the case of the prosecution that a map found in the possession of the accused persons showed some important state installations, such as the Jubilee House, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Burma Camp, the 37 Military Hospital and the National Police Training School, which it had targeted.
