Mr Vanderpuye further instructed the TMA to reconstruct portions of the school’s wall which had been broken by miscreants.

He gave the order last Friday when he presented 2,450 dual desks valued at GH¢ 294,000 to the Tema Metropolitan Education Directorate on behalf of the TMA to be distributed to 75 upper primary schools.

While the school had part of its wall broken, some residents had turned the compound into their kitchen, where they prepare food to sell.

He said the structures and the broken wall were a threat to quality education in the school and directed the TMA to immediately reconstruct the wall.

Mr Vanderpuye asked the educational directorate to send the desks to the beneficiary schools and ensure its maintenance.

The Tema Metropolitan Educational Director, Mr Kwesi Hutchful, appreciated the order from the deputy minister to reconstruct the school and said it was a challenge for his outfit.

Mr Hutchful said other schools in the metropolis  faced similar challenges which had led to the theft of school property, including computers.

On the maintenance of the desks, he gave the assurance that his outfit would ensure that they were well maintained.

He expressed the hope that other educational stages such as lower primary, kindergarten and junior high schools would also benefit from such presentations in future as the desks were to be distributed to upper primary.

Madam Pearl Ekua Agyeman, Headmistress of Padmore Street Primary School, expressed her joy at the deputy minister’s directive and said, in doing that, teachers and pupils could be assured of their security, as they currently worked in fear due to the presence of miscreants on their compound.

"I have to come to work at 5.00 a.m. to drive away lunatics and miscreants from the compound. Their activities have made all of us secondary smokers," she added.
