Daasebre Oti Boateng extends hand of reconciliation to all

The Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre (Prof.) Oti Boateng, has extended a hand of reconciliation to citizens of New Juaben, who may have any grievances, to present such grievances before the traditional council for speedy and amicable redress within the customary practices of New Juaben.

Such a reconciliation process, he, however, indicated, would be in consonant with the customary practices of New Juaben.

Although Daasebre Oti Boateng did not elaborate on the grievances, some of the people in the area had associated the grievances to differences some of the divisional and sub-chiefs had with the Omanhene.

He was speaking at a durbar organised by the chiefs and people of New Juaben to mark their annual Akwantukese Festival in Koforidua last Saturday.

The festival on the theme “Development in Unity for the Welfare of New Juaben”, was in remembrance of the migration of the people from Asante to their present abode over a century ago.

It also marked the 100th anniversary of the reign of Nana Kwaku Boateng and the 21 year of Daasebre (Prof.) Oti Boateng, the current occupant of the paramount stool.

The event was attended by a number of dignitaries such as the two Members of Parliament for the area, Dr Mark Asibey Yeboah (New Juaben South), Nana Adjei Boateng (New Juaben North) and Dr Kwaku Owusu Acheampong, New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive.

Daasebre Oti Boateng underscored the need for unity among citizens of New Juaben towards the development of the area.

He therefore, called on citizens with grievances to present such ill-feelings to the traditional council for a speedy and amicable redress.

Redress of grievances

Daasebre Oti Boateng indicated that the development of New Juaben depended on unity, as such, any citizen with grievances should present such ill-feelings to the traditional council for redress within the confines of the customary practices of the people.

“I want to use this occasion to extend a hand of reconciliation to all citizens of New Juaben who might have any grievances to feel free and present such grievances before the traditional council for speedy and amicable redress within the customary practices of New Juaben”, Daasebre Oti Boateng stated.

To the New Juaben Overlord, the celebration must be described as “joy with tears in our eyes” and that the lessons of the war should be turned into a reality of a better future for all and also to reinforce the unity between New Juaben and Asante.

On the relevance of the festival, Daasebre Oti Boateng indicated that it was aimed at strengthening the unity of the chiefs and people of New Juaben, educating the people, especially the youth, on their origin, migration, traditions and customs as well as serving as a cultural and tourist attraction for the people of Ghana and beyond.

Infrastructural Development

The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Miss Mavis Ama Frempong, reiterated the government’s commitment to provide infrastructural and social amenities that would transform the New Juaben Municipality into that of a metropolis.

That, she said, would further enhance the living conditions of the people in the area.

In line with that, she indicated that the government would vigorously pursue the upgrading of the regionalhospital in Koforidua, rehabilitate feeder roads in the area as well as expedite work on the Eastern Corridor Highway, currently under construction, which links the area to the rest of the country.

National cake

According to her, it had been the prerogative of the Mahama administration to ensure that traditional areas had their due in terms of the provision of infrastructure and that New Juaben, which would also benefit from the provision of 200 new senior high schools nationwide would have its share of the national cake.

Touching on chieftancy, Ms Frempong said since it represented the Ghanaian society and that Nananom remained the most vibrant elements in governance and catalyst for the promotion of peace, the Chieftancy Ministry had to put in structures to enhance its administration to minimise disputes.

She commended Daasebre Oti Boateng, who is also the Chancellor of the All Nations University in Koforidua, for his immense contributions towards the development of the area.

A number of organisations and individuals, whose contributions had led to the development of the New Juaben Traditional Area, were honoured.

They included the Editor of the Daily Graphic, Mr Ransford Tetteh and Mr Justice S. A. Brobbey, a retired Supreme Court judge, who were presented with the Daasabre Excellence Award.
