COVID-19 induced closure of universities: Dr. Anyars buses students to northern Ghana

An aspiring New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for the Tamale Central Constituency, Dr. Anyars Ibrahim, has hired eight buses to help transport students from various campuses in southern Ghana to northern Ghana.

The eight buses are meant to convey students from the University of Ghana; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology; University of Education, Winneba; the University of Cape Coast and the Islamic University College of Ghana to Tamale, the Northern Regional capital.

The support from Dr Anyars follows the month-long closure of universities and other educational institutions by government, announced by President Akufo-Addo on Sunday as part of directives to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19.

All students who will board the buses will not pay any transportation fare.

Ghana recorded its first two cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, March 12, 2020.
