The Minister of Finance, Mr Seth Tekper, yesterday launched the reconstructed website of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) in Accra to  make the department more transparent to the public.

The website, www.cagd.gov.gh, will also host a new site for the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) at www.cagd.gov.gh/gifmis.

The website will help people who are on the government payroll to access information on when they will be paid, as well as provide them an avenue through social media to send feedbacks to the department.

At present, the CAGD is implementing the GIFMIS, which aims at using nationwide information and communication technology (ICT) financial platform to improve public financial management in the country.

The site, according to the Minister of Finance, was linked to other government departments and agencies such as the Ministry of Finance, the Public Procurement Authority, the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Ghana Audit Service and the Bank of Ghana, so that people could have easy access to information on government’s expenditure and dealings.

He said as the CAGD played a key role in the management of the public purse, including the payment of salaries and other emoluments, it was necessary that it established a platform where people could seek or communicate information to it.

Some of the information that could be accessed on the site, he said, included the annual Public Accounts Reports from 2005 to 2011, saying that   would enable Ghanaians to appreciate how funds from the Consolidated Fund were managed.

According to him, the site also provided comprehensive information to stakeholders who wanted to find out about the finances of the country.

A Payroll Expert at CAGD, Mr James Ntim Amponsah, commended the department for re-branding itself, saying that the initiative formed part of the commitment of the department to improve on public information management and stakeholder engagement.

This, he said, would ensure that the organisation met the hopes and aspirations of Ghanaians and other stakeholders.
