Chocolate Festival for Accra November

A cocoa chocolate festival is to be held next month in Accra as part of an initiative to promote the consumption of cocoa in Ghana and abroad.

The initiative, which is a partnership between the government and Centuries International Cocoa Chocolate Festival Organisation Limited, a local company, is scheduled to come off from November 15 to 28, this year.

Job creation

Addressing newsmen on the forthcoming Cocoa Chocolate Festival in Accra yesterday, the Chairman of Centuries International, Mr Kofi Dzira, announced that the initiative was also aimed at creating jobs for the youth.

That, he explained, would be achieved through the provision of vending machines, which would be installed in offices at the ministries, hospitals, schools and other public places to dispense cocoa drinks.

According to Mr Dzira, the company intends to use locally manufactured paper plastic cups which would also be a source of employment for some people.

Centuries International, he said, was working with the Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Education (MOE), and other governmental organisations to make the Cocoa Chocolate Festival successful.

This year’s festival would be the third since its introduction in 2010.

Pilot

Mr Dzira said a pilot programme to introduce cocoa drinks with cocoa bread in selected schools in Accra and Tema proved successful. Consequently, the company had forwarded a proposal to the government to include the package as breakfast in the Ghana School Feeding Programme.

This year, Centuries International has chosen to prepare Allied’s Broma Pure Natural Cocoa Powder because of its fine packaging and health benefits.
