China hands over ICT and Community Centre to Ga Central Municipal Assembly

An Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Community Centre built by the Chinese government for the Sowutuom community has been handed over to the Ga Central Municipal Assembly.

The facility, which is situated on the premises of Maranatha University College at Sowutuom has a computer laboratory with 55 computers, a 24-seater capacity conference hall, a 150-seater capacity Community centre, an office and a lobby.

The facility, dubbed China-Ghana Friend Community Centre is to be used to train the youth in ICT and social events.

In a welcome at the handing over ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ga Central, Dr Emmanuel Lamptey said the assembly in collaboration with the Maranatha University will put together a management team for the facility.

He said assembly has benefitted immensely from collaboration between the Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchway who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional integration.

“In recent times, about six of our public schools benefitted from the “Back to School” Programme initiated by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional integration, to support school children in Ghana with learning materials to facilitate their academic work”

He added that the assembly was determined to promote the socio-economic development of the people in the municipality through the provision of services in Education, Health, Agriculture, Environment and Sanitation sectors among others.

Dr Lamptey mentioned some projects being executed by the assembly as the construction of three-storey clinic at Ablekuma (Abease), CHPS Compound at Olebu and surfacing of Nii Okaiman road at Tabora.

Handling over the facility, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Madam Sun Baohong said the structure also have a multimedia classroom, 58 sets of desks and chair, 28 uninterrupted power supplies (UPS), 40 sets of three-seat chairs, two projectors, speakers and wireless connectors and seven air conditions.

She added that, “This is the first large-scale multi-purpose public facility in the constituency and it can serve a number of surrounding villages and districts”

She said the Chinese government has always adhered to the people-centred development policy and has continuously promoted the all-round development and common prosperity of citizenry.

Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchway commending the Chinese said the centre will contribute to the socio-economic development of the area.

She added that, the centre will create an avenue for residents to come together and engage in the development activities for the community.

Underscoring the importance of ICT to the people in the Municipality, she said it can be used to minimize the difficulty of communicating with people, and enable students, businesses and people relay important information in real time.
