Changes in Ghana Armed Forces

President John Dramani Mahama has made new appointments and promotions in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Top on the list is the appointment of Major General Obed Boamah Akwa as the Chief of Army Staff.
A statement signed by the Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and issued in Accra yesterday said  the appointment, which the President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the GAF, made in consultation with the Council of State, took immediate effect.
Major General Akwa, who was one-time Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to President John Agyekum Kufuor, was until his appointment the Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.
The statement mentioned other appointments in the GAF that had been endorsed by the President.
It named them as Major General W. A. Ayamdo, Commandant of the Military Academy and Training School; Air Vice-Marshal G. S. Evans, Commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, and Rear Admiral S. Amoama, Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.
Three senior officers have also been appointed as General Officers Commanding.
They are Brigadier General S. B. Alloh, Northern Command; Brigadier General C. B. Alhassan, Central Command, and Brigadier General F. Ofori, Commander, Special Services Brigade.
 President Mahama has, on the recommendations of the GAF Council, also approved the promotion of four senior officers.
They are Brigadier General W. A. Ayamdo to the rank of Major General; Brigadier General S. K. Adeti to the rank of Major General; Commodore S. Amoama to the rank of Rear Admiral, and  Air Commodore G. S. Evans to the rank of Air Vice-Marshal.
The statement  said the President had also approved the promotion of a number of other officers to their next ranks.
