Celebration of seventh anniversary of late President Mills threatened

Members of the Cape Coast Development Association have threatened to disrupt the celebration of the seventh anniversary of the passing of President John Evans Attah Mills, if the library built in his honour was not re-opened.

“If the library is not open, then, we the youth of Cape Coast Development Association, will rise up against the celebration of the seven years anniversary that they are going to hold in Cape Coast. Wherever they will go, we will follow them there to do our protest or whatever,” they said.

At a press conference in Cape Coast on Thursday, the spoke person of the group, Alfred Hackson said the contractor of the library had not been paid till date.

The group stressed that it will not be appropriate to celebrate the seventh anniversary of the demise of the late president if the library remains closed.

The John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library, a memorial and research facility in Cape Coast was closed down for lack of funds to run it in March 2018.

The University of Cape Coast (UCC), responsible for the administration of the library, has not been able to pay the water and electricity bills of the facility, hence the closure.
