Bunjai community affected by floods receive support from Salaga North MP and NADMO

Households affected by the September 23, 2026, floods at Bunjai in the North East Gonja District of the Savannah Region have received support from the National Disaster Management Organisation and their member of Parliament for Salaga North, Alhassan Mumuni.

The 288 flood-hit households in Bunjai received foodstuffs and building materials made up of 200 bags of cement, 50 packs of roofing sheets, and mattresses.

This is to help them rebuild their homes and recover from the destruction caused by torrential rainfall, which destroyed 70 houses.

The floods also destroyed foodstuffs, farm produce and livestock, while washing away sections of a major feeder road in the area.

Presenting the items, Alhaji Mumuni said he mobilised support with NADMO after receiving reports of the disaster while he was away from the constituency.

Dam and road rehabilitation

The MP appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to support the rehabilitation of the damaged road, which had been washed away by floodwaters, cutting off access to some communities. He said restoring the road would improve transportation and ensure residents had timely access to emergency services.

He further called for the rehabilitation of the community’s only dam, which was partially destroyed by the floods. This he said will help restore access to water and improve sanitation in the area.

Some residents of the affected communities expressed appreciation to the MP and NADMO for the relief package, describing the September flooding as a difficult experience that left many households struggling to recover.

They said that while some houses had been completely destroyed, others had partially collapsed, with several residents also losing livestock and foodstuffs.

One of the residents said the intervention would provide some relief to households still grappling with the effects of the disaster.
