Birim Central Assembly inaugurates Audit Committee

The Audit Committee of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly has been inaugurated at Akyem Oda with a call on the members to be vigilant on the prudent utilisation of the assembly’s financial resources.

A Senior Manager of the Internal Audit Agency, Mr Senanu Mensah, who made the call on behalf of the Director-General, said the committee was a high-level corporate committee.

The committee, he stressed, was dear to President Akufo-Addo’s heart since it was the next to the 1992 Constitution in terms of the weight that it carried.

Mr Senanu Mensah said the committee was to ensure that the decisions taken by Parliament on the Auditor-General’s report were adhered to by the assemblies.

He stressed that the committee should ensure that audit recommendations in the Auditor-General’s report on the assembly were implemented to the letter.

According to Mr Senanu Mensah, members of the committee whose tenure in office was two years for two terms were to hold meetings four times within a year.

He urged the assembly not to attack the internal auditors and vice versa.

The Birim Central Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Al-hassan Ziblim Alhassan, who deputised for the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Kwbena Bempong, gave an assurance that the assembly would provide the committee with logistic support and make available all records to it to enhance its work.

He advised members of the committee not to assume the role of the police, but work hand in hand with the assembly in order to achieve the desired results.

The Chairman of the committee, Mr Isaac Kwaku Mensah, a representative of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG), pledged that the members would use their wide range of experience in public financial management to ensure the success of the work of the committee.

He said the committee was open for constructive criticisms to enhance the progress of the assembly.

Other members of the committee are Mr Andrews Abrokwah, the Presiding Member of the Birim Central Municipal Assembly, Mr Ernest Ofori Aiden, the Finance and Administration Chairman of the assembly, Madam Humu Ismaila, representative of Internal Audit Agency, and Madam Akua Afrakomah Frimpong of the ICAG.
