Be wary of fake agents of Eastern European universities
The Minister of National Security, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah, has cautioned Ghanaian youth who are desirous of studying abroad, particularly in Eastern European countries, to be wary of individuals who pose as agents of universities in those countries.

The warning was contained in a statement signed by Mr Kan-Dapaah and issued in Accra yesterday, following a recent incident in which two Ghanaians are said to have been duped by a man who posed as a recruitment agent in Ghana for Russian universities.
The victims, Messrs Charles Nketia and Samuel Zunweri, are alleged to have paid GH¢2,200 each to the suspect, Mr Laud Tettey Nagatey, who posed as an agent of the Siberian State University in Russia.
They are said to have made the payment, believing that the agent is an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs studying at the Siberian State University.

The statement said a few days after the money had been paid into a GCB Bank account number 14911010024648, the victims received letters purportedly issued by the Siberian State University of Geosystem indicating that they had been given admission to the university.
Per the content of the letters, Messrs Nketia and Zunweri proceeded to apply for student visas from the Russian Embassy in Accra but they were denied without any explanation.
It said after checks were done, it came to light that the admission letters received by Messrs Nketia and Zunweri were forged by Mr Nagatey.
“The manner in which the admission letters were issued suggests possible collusion between Nagatey and, possibly, some Ghanaians and Russian or Ghanaians in Russia,” it said.
