Assemblies of God urges members to join national clean-up exercise

The Executive Presbytery of Assemblies of God, Ghana, has called for full participation of all its church members and the Christian community in the national clean-up exercises scheduled for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026.

In a statement issued on July 9, the church expressed deep condolences to the families of Ghanaians and other nationals who lost their loved ones and profoundly sympathised with those whose properties were destroyed in the horrendous floods.

"This recurring disaster underlines the imperative necessity to muster political will and initiate bolt-and-nut measures to save precious lives and minimise significantly the destructive impacts of flooding across the country," the statement read.

The church noted that the national clean-up exercises present the first test of Ghanaians' resolve to change the pitiable narrative and open a new chapter of environmental cleanliness and sanitation consciousness.

In view of this, the Assemblies of God asked all its pastors, members and other faith-based groups to actively join the clean-up exercises in their communities.

"We understand that faith is not just private devotion - it is also public action. An action to keep the environment clean must not only reflect in periodic exercises but the constant practice of all Christians and all Ghanaians in general," the statement said.

The church urged members to let their light shine before other members of society so that they may see their good works of environmental stewardship and give glory to their Father in heaven.

The statement was issued by Rev. Dr. Ernest Birikorang, General Secretary of Assemblies of God, Ghana.
