The chiefs, queens and people of Asogli on Saturday rounded off their 2026 Te Za (yam festival) with a grand durbar at the Ho Jubilee Park.
The six-week celebration was on the theme: United in Purpose, Investing in People and Infrastructure for Sustainable National Development.
The guest of honour was the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Dr Julius Debrah.
He commended the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV for guiding his people in the right direction over the years, saying this concern for jobs for the youth and the empowerment of women entrepreneurs were reassuring of his firm stance to support progress, not only in Asogli, but in the country as a whole.
Dr Debrah said the Volta Region continued to occupy a special place in the heart of the government and central development plans.
The people of the Volta Region carried themselves with dignity, were learned without arrogance, and industrious without noise, he added.
“This region has given Ghana outstanding teachers, farmers, entrepreneurs and patriots, the Chief of Staff acknowledged.
He touched on the theme and said the it was most appropriate saying and the soil, labour and patience produced the yam, similar to development which also required hard work and patience to materialise.
Dr Debrah said the ongoing Big Push projects heralded the arrival of improvement of livelihoods, including farming.
The roads, when completed would serve as routes to farms, schools, hospitals, markets, and opportunities for the citizenry, he explained.
“Government sees the Volta Region as an important centre for production, tourism and change, and that vision must be evident on the ground,” said the guest of honour.
He re-affirmed the commitment of his office to work with traditional authorities and public-spirited individuals to improve lives in communities.
In his festival address, Togbe Afede renewed his call on Ghanaians to maintain and strong sense of patriotism and fight corruption ferociously without comprise, for the progress of the nation.
He said all development plans would yield no meaningful results if corruption remained in the society.
The Agbogbomefia maintained it was important for chiefs to spearhead the campaign for honesty and dignity in the country and be at the centre of development, which he said was the most important aspiration of the people.
Togbe Afede urged the youth to embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship and become job creators and not only job seekers, saying development was a shared responsibility between the people and the government.
“Hard work, honesty and respect for one another will do more for us,” he said.
The Awafiaga (War Lord) of Asogli, Togbe Adzie Lakle Howusu XII said the prevailing peace and harmony within Asogli was an asset for rapid development.
He, therefore, advised the people of Asogli not to allow any divisive tendency to set them apart.
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu said the strong bond of cordiality between the chiefs of the region and the Volta Regional Coordinating Council was an excellent recipe for development.
Among the large crowd at the durbar were ministers of state, visitors from various part of the world, chiefs from other parts of the country and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
