AMA completes Salleria cluster of schools building complex
A three-storey 18-unit classroom block with a specialised kindergarten facility for the Salleria Cluster of Schools at Darkuman-Kokompe in the Ablekuma North Constituency in Accra has been completed.

The disability-friendly edifice, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has a computer and science laboratories, washrooms, a store, a staff common room, and a library.
It forms part of the millennium city schools project initiated by the assembly since 2012 to augment the efforts of the assembly to abolish the shift system in public schools in the metropolis.
The assembly has, since 2012, constructed 122 schools under the project out of which 14 have been completed and are in use.
Improve academic performance
Speaking after a tour to assess the progress of work on some educational projects within the metropolis, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the AMA, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, said the assembly would this year cut the sod for the construction of six other schools in the metropolis.
He said once the schools were inaugurated, all old structures on the school premises would be demolished to pave the way for the construction of sporting facilities.
“We will develop the fields into a modern sports complex in terms of athletics and soccer, among other, to whip up the interest of the students in sporting activities, he said.
Additionally, he said the construction of the schools formed part of the government’s effort to provide quality education for children in the metropolis and the country at large.
Mr Vanderpuije encouraged school administrators to work harder for improved academic performance, with the provision of the academic facilities.
“It is our expectation that the teachers will work hard, that the students will learn and this will change the academic performance of students in the AMA,” he said.
Other projects
Other projects inspected were the construction of a teachers’ bungalow for the Achimota Senior High School, which is about 50 per cent complete and expected to be inaugurated by August this year.
The construction of three-storey 18-unit classroom block each at Salvation Army Cluster of Schools at Mamprobi and the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools has also been completed.
