The victim, identified as Elizabeth Yawa Anku was said to have gone to pick mangoes in her farm, a few metres away from home at Kpeme when she was attacked by unknown assailants and shot on the right breast.

A week ago, a similar incident happened with the killing of a 15 year old student at home at Alavanyo-Deme.

Some residents suspect the killings in Alavanyo were reprisal attacks from Nkonya following similar recent killings of three natives including a 17 year old girl.

The police are yet to comment on the incident. Some residents are however fleeing the town to safety.

A resident told Graphic Online that 'we cannot sleep peacefully anymore. We live in fear always because we cannot tell when and where we would be attacked'.

Meanwhile the youth leader, Mr George Asare has said he feared his people may also retaliate if nothing was done to protect residents.

“The issue is no longer about conflict over a piece land. It is about killing to retaliate previous deaths. We know the police and the military are doing their best but more efforts must be made to arrest the culprits,” he appealed.
