Akyem Swedru NDC lauds Mills, Botchwey

THE executive of the Akyem Swedru Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the display of mature statesmanship by both Professor John Atta Mills and Dr Kwesi Botchwey at the recently held national delegates congress is a veritable watershed in the internal democratic practices of the party.

He said contrary to speculations that the congress would be characterised by violence, the conduct of the two contestants immeasurably ensured its success much to the dismay of even the political opponents of the NDC.

The Constituency Chairman of the branch, Mr Emmanuel Kwakye who said this at an executive committee meeting at Akyem Swedru added that the sense of purpose and unity displayed by the party and the contestants indicates that the NDC is poised to win back political power in the 2004 general elections.

He commended both Prof. Mills and Dr Botchwey for comporting themselves and restraining their supporters throughout the congress and remarked that the NDC has proved beyond every shadow of doubt that it is poised to stake a claim at the next elections.

Mr Kwakye who is the son of the former District Commissioner for Oda, the late Mr Kwame Kwakye, called on Prof. Mills to actively involve Dr Botchwey in the activities of the party as he promised in his acceptance speech after his landslide victory at the congress.

?The NDC needs the brains and brawn of all its leading functionaries and the rank and file to win back power and the leadership of the party should not lose sight of this relevant fact?, he said.

He advised the leadership of the party to reach out to all members who since 1992 and for one reason or another left to join other parties or are sitting on the fence to rejoin it to offer a stiff challenge to the NPP in the 2004 elections.

Mr Kwakye said the constituency executive is working hard to wrest the seat from the NPP in the next elections and called on members of the party to actively support its efforts.
