Akufo-Addo and appointees back at work after 2020 elections

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his appointees and Ministers of State are back at work after the 2020 elections, the Minister of Information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has said.

Addressing a press briefing Thursday afternoon [December 10, 2020], Mr Oppong Nkrumah said the President and his appointees returned to work a day after the declaration of the presidential election results.

The objective, he said was to wrap up government business for the year 2020.

"Today he [Akufo-Addo] is back at post, performing his official duties from Jubilee House as usual whilst receiving congratulatory messages from his colleague Heads of State and from other international and local organisations and their heads.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah said Ghana was also being generally applauded by the global community who had monitored the conduct of the polls and especially, "our demonstration to the world that our young democracy is growing."

"The president expects his appointees to work with dispatch to ensure that the remainder of the government programme for 2020 is achieved," the Minister added.

The Government of Ghanaian wishes to congratulate the Ghanaian media for its role in the coverage of the 2020 Parliamentary and Presidential elections. Government is particularly enthused with the level of professionalism with which the Ghanaian media covered activities before, during and after the 2020 general elections.

The Ghanaian media plays an indispensable role in the proper functioning of the Ghanaian democracy

The Ghanaian media was instrumental in assisting with voter education, civic rights, election day developments as well reporting on and collation of results.

While applauding your contributions, the government urges the media to uphold the excellence with which it has conducted its coverage of the 2020 elections.

The government of Ghana is hopeful that with our collective efforts our country’s democracy will continue to be strengthened in a peaceful and sound environment.

  1. Government back to work to wrap up business for the year

President Akufo-Addo and his appointees are already back to work a day after the declaration of results for the Presidential election to wrap up government business for the year.

The President after his declaration as President-Elect by the electoral commission, has been back at work today, performing his official duties at the (Jubilee House) while he continues to receive congratulatory messages from colleague heads of state from in and around the continent.

Ghana generally is also being applauded by the global community and observer missions who monitored the conduct of the polls and especially our demonstration to the world that our young democracy is growing.

The President expects his appointees to work with dispatch to ensure that the remainder of the government program for 2020 is fully achieved.
