Agordeke becomes ‘ghost’ town as only pontoon breaks down

Agordeke, a fishing community, which used to be one of the busiest commercial communities in the Kwahu Afram Plains North in the Eastern Region, is now a pale shadow of itself.

Until the last seven years, the landing beach at Agordeke was the nerve centre of business activities between traders in the Volta Region and their counterparts in the Eastern Region.

Agordeke-Kpando route
The Agordeke-Kpando Torkor route by water is not only the most convenient route for travellers from the Afram Plains to Kpando in the Volta Region using the pontoon, it is also the cheapest. From Agordeke to Kpando on the lake costs only GH¢7.

However, for the past six years, the pontoon, MV 4th Republic, has broken down and has been moved to Akosombo for rehabilitation where it sank and has since been in the ‘belly’ of the waters at the Akosombo dockyard.
