A release signed by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Ishmael Nana Ogyefo read: “the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has scheduled Monday, April 6, 2020 to embark on disinfection exercise of markets and lorry parks across the 22 MMDAs in the central region.

It stated further that the exercise formed part of measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the country and further advised all traders in the markets to comply with the directive and remove all perishable items from the markets to pave way for the exercise.

The markets to be disinfected in the Agona West Municipality are the Main, Mandela and Ankyease markets, all in Agona Swedru, Nana Adasemase, Odumase, Obronikrom markets in Agona Nyakrom, Abodom and Upper Bobikuma markets as well as Agona Otsenkorang and Agona Nkum markets and all lorry parks in Agona Swedru.

Many trooping in

Speaking to Graphic Online, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan said that due to the partial lockdown of Kasoa, many traders and buyers are trooping to Agona Swedru, the next biggest town to transact businesses on daily basis.

As a result, she noted that effective April 2, 2020, the assembly would screen and check temperatures of commuters and drivers entering the Swedru Township from the four entry points on Mondays and Thursdays which are observed as markets days to control the spread of the pandemic.

“Henceforth, the assembly would screen motorists entering the town from Winneba, Ajumako, Oda and Bawjiase directions to curtail the importation of the virus into the municipality” the MCE noted.

She indicated that the assembly would continue to intensify public education and sensitization on the pandemic to ensure that the public was well-informed about the virus which had claimed thousands of lives and affected hundreds of thousands of people across the world.

She admonished Ghanaians to understand the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic and adhere to all directives and guidelines aimed at controlling and containing the spread of the virus in the country.
