The prayers were said in all the regions by members of the group.

The non-denominational service drew hundreds of people to pray for the country, a monthly routine for many years.

Aglow prayed for God’s intervention in factors hindering the development of the country.

The group identified some of the hindrances as possible curses that might have been pronounced by aggrieved political leaders since independence, as well as curses occasioned by political and extrajudicial killings.

The members of Aglow International believe the consequences of those bloodsheds and the pronouncements of aggrieved political leaders are being felt today economically and, therefore, there is the need for God’s intervention.

Prayer against evil

The Prayer Director of the group, Mrs Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, cited 2 Chronicles 7:14 and asked the congregation to pray that people would turn away from their evil ways to attract the attention of God to turn the fortunes of the country around.

Uprooting a tree planted in a flower pot, while praying to symbolically represent the ending of all forms of evil deeds in the country, Mrs Afenyi-Dadzie urged the congregation on to pray for all current and continuing acts of ritual killings, corruption, stealing, idolatry and alcoholism which hindered national development.

Pray for grace

For her part, the National President of Aglow International, Dr Mrs Dorothy Danso, admonished Christians to pray for the country without ceasing.

She said the country had come far by the grace and mercies of God and underscored the need to continue praying for those mercies.

She said as Ghana prepared to celebrate its 60th anniversary, it was very crucial for the country to thank God and appreciate him for His faithfulness and unusual kindness towards the nation.

“God has preserved the peace, unity and stability of the nation. He has been good to Ghana in all times. Therefore, we have every cause to appreciate Him,” she said.
