Aggrieved JUSAG members disrupt meeting

Drama unfolded at the premises of the Tamale High Court yesterday when some members of the Northern Regional branch of the Judicial Service Association of Ghana (JUSAG) forcibly took custody of a welfare bus which had conveyed some executive members of the association from Accra for a meeting in Tamale.

The group which said it was not satisfied with the way the national executive were running the affairs of the union removed one of the back tyres and deflated the two front tyres of the Nissan Civilian bus with registration number GT 9212-13 that brought the national executive members to Tamale.

The national executive members led by the interim secretary of JUSAG, Mr Derrick Annan, were in Tamale to meet with members of the association across the region to deliberate on the affairs of the association.

The meeting was scheduled to take place at 1p.m. yesterday afternoon at the Tamale High Court premises.

Due to the action of the workers the meeting did not take place.

Grievance

Some of the aggrieved members who spoke to the Daily Graphic said although they had been paying their monthly dues, they were yet to benefit from the money.

When contacted, the acting District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Peter K. Tawiah, confirmed the story and said two national executive members of the association came to the station to lodge a complaint.

He gave the names of the complainants in the case as Messers Derrick Annan and Atsu Kornyoh, interim secretary and executive member respectively.

Mr Tawiah said the police went to the scene and restored calm while investigations were underway.

Efforts to get the two national executive members for their comments proved futile as their whereabout could not be established.
