Ghana spent $5.8million on Black Stars for Afcon 2015

The Minister of Sports, Mr Mahama Ayariga has told Parliament that Ghana spent nearly US$5.8million on the senior national football team, the Black Star’s for their participation in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Equatorial Guinea.

He gave the break down as US$932,740 for the period spent before going to Equatorial Guniea along with Ghc3,242,580 as expenditure for boarding, lodging, airfare and per diem in all the friendly matches before the tournament itself.

Speaking in Parliament Wednesday morning, Mr Ayariga said during the tournament, a total amount of US$608,640 was also spent on per diem allowances, boarding and lodging as well as other allowances for players and officials.

An additional US$3,224,139 was spent on honoraria and bonuses for players, management team and technical staff.

The Minister made it clear that compared to allowances and bonuses paid in the past, this year’s own was varied downwards by between 20 and 30 percent.

Members of Parliament congratulated the national team for the role they played during the Afcon and asked Ghanaians to continue to support the team.
