7 Basic school pupils under investigation for alleged occultism
The authorities of the Mary Afriyie SDA Basic School (JHS) at Mamponteng in the Kwabre East District in the Ashanti Region are collaborating with the SDA Education Unit to investigate a suspected case of occultism in the school.

So far, seven pupils, all males, have been apprehended for practising the occult after school hours.
They are said to have been consulting a Mallam who directed them to perform some rituals for the occult practice, but the whereabouts of the Mallam are presently unknown.
The pupils were caught performing some rituals and doing incantation intended to help them to get quick and free money overnight.
While the leader of the seven, aged 13, is in Primary Six, the rest, who are aged between 11 and 15, are all in Junior High School (JHS) Two.
They are, meanwhile, attending classes without any intimidation whatsoever, while investigations continue.
Sources at the school said the leader of the group, ever since he was transferred from a school at Hemang to his current school, had been showing signs of occultism and trying to recruit more of his peers into the practice.
His parents were not aware that he is into occult practice until this incident, although they had suspected him and resorted to prayers to deliver him from the occult stranglehold on him.

The Headteacher of the school, Mr George Antwi, declined to comment on the matter, but the Local Manager of SDA Schools, Pastor I.K. Konadu, who briefed the Daily Graphic, said he was yet to send a formal report to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the SDA Education Unit
He said after school hours last Friday, some passers-by chanced upon the seven pupils smoking in a ghetto in the town.
He said fortunately, the passers-by saw a policeman also passing by and asked him to help bring the children to book.
Pastor Konadu said the policeman quickly handcuffed two of the pupils, and with the help of the civilians around, took the pupils to his (Pastor Konadu’s) residence, Pastor Konadu also doubles as Pastor of the Mamponteng District of the SDA Church.
He said the policeman seized two mobile phones, some powder, drinks, spray, cigarette sticks, cowries, a small mat, among other items which are believed to be used for rituals from the pupils.
Pastor Konadu said the school had since called an emergency Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting to deliberate on the matter, while investigations were ongoing.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the SDA Education Unit, Mr Charles Ankrah, said the unit was yet to receive a formal report from the school.
