470 Immigration officers promoted
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has promoted 470 junior officers to their next respective ranks.
They were promoted after having completed a minimum of four years of satisfactory service and satisfying the requirements of satisfactory performance and good conduct, as stipulated in the Immigration Service Regulations, 2016 [LI 2245].

This is a marked departure from the past when such promotions delayed for between five and eight years.
Specifics
A statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the GIS, Mr Michael Amoako-Atta, said in all, 26 Assistant Inspectors were promoted to the rank of Inspectors, with 280 Immigration Control Officers assuming the rank of Assistant Inspectors.
Some 164 Assistant Immigration Control Officers (Grade I) were also promoted to the rank of Immigration Control Officers.
The promotions made good a promise by the Minister of the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery, that the promotion of Immigration officers would not be delayed in the GIS.
Background
According to officials of the GIS, improper alignment of human resource systems and unnecessary delays accounted for the situation of many officers not having their promotions in time, which lowered morale.
To resolve the problem, a source said, the current management, led by the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr Kwame Asuah Takyi, procured a human resource software.
Mr Takyi and his team were also making efforts to resolve the issue of square pegs in round holes by ensuring that professionals in the service were placed in their proper roles and recognised as such, an official explained to the Daily Graphic.
