45-Year-old man before court for defiling girl, 10
A 45-year-old man was on Wednesday hauled before the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling his 10-year old niece on several occasions.

Gideon Laryea, the prosecution said, normally gives his phone stuffed with nude pictures to the girl to watch after which he defiles her.
The prosecution added that Laryea, in his caution statement, admitted to inserting his fingers into the private parts of the girl, but denied having sexual intercourse with her
At his appearance at the court, he pleaded not guilty to two counts of defilement of a child under 16 years of age and was remanded in police custody.
The presiding judge, Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, advised the accused to get a lawyer and adjourned the case to December 21, 2017.

Alleged act
The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Adolphine Dzani, told the court that the girl lived with her mother, but normally spent the weekends with her grandmother at their family house, where Laryea also resided.
She said anytime the girl went to visit her grandmother, Laryea would invite her to come and sit with him while he washed his clothes.
“He will then give his phone to her to watch the nude pictures on it. Then at a point, he will send the girl to a room and have sexual intercourse with her,” the prosecutor said.
According to DSP Dzani, on December 11, 2017, the girl’s mother noticed blood stains in the girl’s underwear and questioned her.
“The girl broke down and told her that Laryea had been fingering her and had also had numerous sexual intercourse with her,” she said.
The prosecutor added that the matter was reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), leading to Laryea’s arrest.
