24 Undergo ethical leadership training

Those with them are some course participants from Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone.The Civil Service Training Centre (CSTC) has organised a three-week course on ethical leadership for quality productivity and improvement for 24 government officials from Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

The course, which was sponsored by Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), was to make the participants agents of change in their respective countries.

Some of the topics treated  by the participants included the relevance and functions of the civil service, the role of stakeholders in public service delivery, managing the perception of the civil service and the Kaizen concept designed to improve on productivity of the civil service, among others.

Mrs Dora Dei-Tumi, Principal of  CSTC, who closed the session, said the participants were exposed to a series of skilled focus learning sessions and activities on the critical component for effective ethical leadership.

She said the participants were also made to design action plans which were to be implemented in their respective institutions on their return.

Mrs Dei-Tumi advised the participants to provide good leadership, demonstrate positive attitudes and also be creative and innovative to become successful agents of change.

The local consultant of the JICA in charge of Governance, Ms Megumi Ando, said improvement in the civil service was crucial for a nation’s social and economic development .

She stated that the technology, known as the “Kaizen” which was a firebrand of continuous improvement, had brought Japan to its current status, adding that this technology, which formed part of their course content, would go a long way to improve their performance.

Mr Amos Gbassie, the course prefect, on behalf of his colleagues, expressed his gratitude to the JICA, the Office of the Head of Civil Service and the CSTC for equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge.

He assured the organisers that the knowledge acquired would be used to improve their respective institutions on their return.
