The suspects had also taken advantage of public sympathy for them after the death of their colleague during a confrontation.

Mr Bedie said many peaceful residents in the area had been taken 'hostage', as drug peddlers allegedly attacked innocent persons and had virtually occupied every available space in front and behind some homes.

He said some residents avoided opening their windows in order not to let in the offensive smell of the leaves.

Mr Bedie said the police would ensure that the war against “wee” or drug peddling will be intensified until it was reduced the barest minimum.
