The siblings, Amin Alabani, 32, and Mashud Alabani, 27, confessed to the incest when they appeared before the Katariga Kamo Naa, who is the chief of the area.

They also confessed they had defiled the girl on various occasions. Their father, Mba  Alabani, has also disowned them for the abominable act.

Amin has two wives, while Mashud has one.

Shock

The incident has thrown the entire Katariga community into a state of shock and disbelief with people meeting in groups to discuss the matter.

The Sagnarigu District was carved out of the Tamale metropolis in 2012 and the Katariga community is about 20 minutes’ drive from Tamale.

Ordeal

The victim (name withheld), who narrated her ordeal at the hands of her two stepbrothers, said she went to Amin’s room on March 5, 2016 to watch television in the night.

According to her, she fell asleep and her two brothers forcibly had sex with her and threatened her not to tell anyone about it.

She said she informed her mother about the incident,  but she (mother) downplayed it and accused  her of peddling falsehood about her step- brothers, who the mother least expected would engage in such an act.

However, on March 12, 2016, the victim said, Mashud sent  her  to buy him fried yam and when she entered his room on her return, he pushed her down and forcibly had sex with her again.

She shouted for help which attracted some people in the house to the room.

The mother of the victim, who corroborated the story, said she was informed about the issue but did not believe it until the matter was sent to the palace where the two brothers confessed to the offence.

Contact

When contacted, the Katariga Kamo Naa refused to comment on the issue.

However, some residents who were present during the hearing at the palace confirmed the story to the Daily Graphic.

Checks by the Daily Graphic at the Regional Directorate of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service indicated that no report of defilement or incest had been reported there.
