Foreign direct investment

Known as Sunshine Healthcare Limited, the centre, which cost $2.8 million to set up, is a foreign direct investment into the health sector from India through the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

Located at the Airport Residential Area, the facility, which was inaugurated last Friday, has begun the provision of specialist consultation, radiology and laboratory services.

The Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, inaugurated the facility and called for private sector partnership in the provision of amenities, especially health facilities. He said the centre would augment the government’s effort to ensure quality health care for all.

He added that the financial burden of attaining that vision was huge and, therefore, the government was working on a number of public-private partnerships to solicit the support of the private sector.

Regulatory authority

Mr Agyemang-Manu said although the government expected the private sector to contribute to healthcare delivery, it was imperative for operators in the sector to provide services with accuracy and professionalism.

“To this effect, the ministry has formed the Health Facility Regulatory Authority to regulate private healthcare services to ensure that their services are accurately and professionally delivered,” he said.

Mr Agyemang-Manu explained that the creation of the authority became necessary following the proliferation of laboratory and scan centres whose services left a lot to be desired.

He commended Sunshine Healthcare Limited for delivering quality service in the country since 2011.

In a welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer of the facility, Mr Bernard M. Joseph, said the centre was committed to providing quality but affordable services.

He said every member of the public had the right to access quality healthcare services, which his facility was ready to support the government to provide.
