14 ‘Secessionists’ arrested in Kpando

Fourteen (14) people suspected to be members of the Homeland Study Group Foundation, which is advocating for the formal withdrawal and restoration of Western Togoland as an independent state from Ghana, have been arrested.

The suspects, including three women, are in police custody after they were picked up during a meeting at Sovie, a suburb of Kpando, in the Volta Region.

They were initially placed in police custody at Kpando, but have since been transferred to the Regional Police headquarters in Ho for further investigations.

Arrests

The arrests were made at 11:30 a.m. last Saturday by the Kpando Divisional Police Command acting in concert with personnel from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), 66 Artillery Regiment and National Security based on intelligence received on their meeting.

A statement signed by the Volta Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Corporal Prince Dogbatse, stated that the suspects "were arrested while discussing steps to secede the Volta Region from Ghana into Western Togoland and related matters".

Corporal Dogbatse, on behalf of the Police Command, cautioned "anyone who seeks to identify themselves with this illegal enterprise to be mindful of the grave consequences of their actions".
