10th anniversary of Omanhene of Breman launched

The 10th anniversary celebration of the Omanhene of the Breman Traditional Area in the Central Region, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, has been launched.

The anniversary will coincide with the Breman Odwira 2019, a festival of the chiefs and people in the area on the theme: “Promoting citizens’ responsibility for Bremanman’s development”.

Known in private life as Michael Baddoo, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, ascended the throne on May 31, 2009 at age 41. He succeeded his late uncle, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VII.

The Adontenhene of the traditional area, who is the Chairman of the Afahye Planning Committee, Nana Okoryaw Abonin IV, was assisted by Nana Afful Nyankoe II, the Krontihene, to launch the programme at the Omanhene’s palace.

He said the celebration, which officially started on October 6, 2019, would end on November 24, 2019. The climax will be commemorated with a grand durbar at the Catholic Boys Basic School park at Breman Asikuma on Saturday, November 17, 2019.

Following the launch of the programme, there has been a ban on drumming and noise making in the area from October 31 to November 7, 2019.

Activities

Some of the activities outlined for the programme include Twafo Akwanbo, November 8, Ahenema Akwanbo, and a food bazaar on November 14, 2019.

Others are Bayeredi, October 30, community float, clean-up exercise, marathon, community football gala, Maths quiz and Nsumko, a traditional visit to the Okye River by the chiefs and people of Breman State which will be done during the 10th anniversary of the Omanhene, on Saturday, November 16, 2019.

Development plan

According to Nana Abonin IV, Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu VIII, was committed to the social and economic well-being of the area, hence, the formulation and adoption of a five-year medium-term strategic development plan and the formation of the Breman Development Committee with Kyidomhene, Nana Barima Fi III, as the chairman to spearhead its implementation.

The six goals contained in the new plan are youth development, agriculture, education, health, tourism and resource development.

He said the plan formed part of the vision of the Omanhene to rally support from citizens of the area, both home and abroad, towards the growth and development of the area.

Commendation

Odeefuo Buadu, commended the chiefs and the people, including all stakeholders for their immeasurable support during the last 10 years of his reign which had witnessed peace, unity and progress.

He also thanked the people for living in harmony since his ascension to the throne, saying “it is only when we live in peace and harmony as a people that our traditional area can achieve the desired growth”.

Odeefuo Buadu called on the investor community to take advantage of potentials in the area to establish businesses to create jobs for accelerated growth.

Odeefuo Amoakwa Buadu is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Baxoil Company Limited, a Ghanaian oil company that produces quality Baxoil-branded lubricants.

Projects

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Mr Isaac Odoom, said the government had embarked on a number of development projects and interventions to improve the living conditions of the people.

For his part, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr Anthony Effah, thanked the Odeefuo for his exemplary leadership and called on the people to support the chiefs in the development drive.
