Ten institutions and three prominent individuals have been recognised at the second edition of the Ghana Downstream Petroleum Awards and Gala Night for their exceptional performance and contributions to the growth of the sector.
The awards ceremony, which followed the successful organisation of the 2026 Ghana International Petroleum Conference (GhIPCon), was dedicated to celebrating excellence, innovation and outstanding performance across the country's downstream petroleum industry.
Held last Saturday in Accra, the glamorous event brought together key stakeholders across the industry to wine and dine while celebrating each other's success.
Sentuo Oil Refinery was named Refinery Company of the Year in recognition of its growing role in strengthening domestic refining capacity and supporting national energy security.
Award winners
In the transportation category, Duah Boachie Training and Transport Limited earned the title of Emerging Transporter of the Year, while J. K. Horgle Transport and Company Limited was crowned Transporter of the Year for its sustained excellence in petroleum logistics.
Matrix Gas Ghana Limited received the award for Emerging Company of the Year, acknowledging its impressive growth and impact within the industry.
Juwel Energy Limited was recognised as BIDEC Company of the Year, celebrating excellence in the bulk import, distribution and export segment of the petroleum value chain.
Moari Oil Company Limited was honoured as the Emerging OMC of the Year, while Star Oil secured one of the evening's most prestigious accolades as OMC of the Year, recognising its leadership, market performance and commitment to quality service.
Petroleum Warehousing and Supplies Limited (PWSL) received the Special Recognition Award for its significant contribution to Ghana's downstream petroleum sector.
The evening also recognised distinguished leadership and exceptional service to the country's energy sector through a series of honorary awards.
The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor; the CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, Mr Godwin Kudzo Tameklo; and former Deputy CEO of the NPA, Perry Curtis Kwabla Okudzeto, were each presented with honorary awards in recognition of their contributions to the growth and development of Ghana's downstream petroleum industry.
Commendation
Speaking at the event, Mr Tameklo commended the nominees and winners for their contribution to the growth and sustainability of the country’s downstream petroleum industry.
He said, “every nominee and award recipient represents the progress and professionalism driving our industry forward.”
He added that: “the future of Ghana's downstream petroleum industry will be built on innovation, collaboration and unwavering commitment to excellence."
The NPA boss also stated that a strong downstream petroleum industry is fundamental to the country's economic growth and national development.
“Our goal is to create a downstream sector that is competitive, sustainable and attractive to investment while ensuring that consumers are protected.
“Resilience is not built overnight. It requires continuous investment in infrastructure, technology, human capital and systems that allow us to respond effectively to changing global dynamics,” he said.
GhIPCon 2026
The two-day conference was organised by the NPA in partnership with the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors (CBOD) and the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.
It was meant to provide a timely platform for policymakers, regulators, investors, development partners and industry leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue on the future of the downstream sector amid growing global energy uncertainties.
Held on the theme: "Building a Resilient Downstream: Policy, Innovation and Investment for Growth", the conference attracted participants from more than 25 countries, reinforcing its status as one of Africa's leading forums for discussions on petroleum policy, regulation, technology and investment.
Notable among the attendees were the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, who represented President John Dramani Mahama; CEO of the NPA, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, and his deputy, Dr Sheila Addo; CEO of CBOD, Dr Patrick Ofori; CEO of COMAC, Dr Riverson Oppong; CEO of African Refiners and Distributors Association, Anibor O. Kragha; CEO of CITAC Africa Limited, Gary Steel; former CEO of Ghana Minerals Commission, Tony Aubynn, and former CEO of NPA, Mustapha Hamid.
