Yaa Asantewaa SHS appeals for support

The Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School in Kumasi has appealed for support for the completion of its new assembly hall.

The school authorities have also appealed to philanthropists to help replace its old generator.

According to them, the non completion of the assembly hall, a GETFund project which started in 2006 but came to a standstill in 2011, made it difficult for the school to accommodate the 2,000 students during church services and other social activities.

The current situation has left the school with no option but to use the uncompleted structure for church services and other activities such as PTA meetings, although the building has no windows and doors and the floor is not cemented.

To ensure the safety of the students, the authorities have dismantled part of the abandoned rotten scaffold which was hanging dangerously.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic about the problems confronting the school, the Headmistress, Mrs Elizabeth Malik Jabir, appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to  help the school to complete the project and also acquire a new generator.

She said the school was not connected to Ghana Water Company pipelines and, therefore, had to resort to the use of water from boreholes which is pumped with the same old generator which broke down often and also consumed a lot of fuel.
