Works progress on Creative Arts Senior High School

Work is steadily progressing on the first-ever Creative Arts Senior High School located in the Kwadaso Municipality in the Ashanti Region.

Works on the projects are about 60 per cent complete and barring any unforeseen development, should be ready in January for its first batch of students.

Currently, the accommodation for the principal and vice and the administration block are almost complete and the structures for the boys and girls dormitories have been erected and the classroom blocks are near completion.

The Project Coordinator for Golden Mainland, Mr Daniel Ohene, one of the two contractors working on the project, told the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, who paid a working visit to the project site, that the project was on course and within schedule.

When completed, the school would have a boys dormitory of 500 students capacity, while that of the girls is about 750.

It would boast 12 laboratories and classrooms to admit more than 1,000 students from the creative arts industry.

Impression

Dr Adutwum expressed his delight at the progress of work and was hopeful that the project would be completed by December.

“I am sure the project would be completed by December looking at the pace of work. See the roofing that is ongoing and if you look at the girls dormitory, this is at the last level and I am sure it can be done,” he said.

He said the school would help hone the skills of those in the sector and nurture the next generation of Kumawood stars.

“The vision of the President is very clear. This, as he promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), he doesn't have to leave behind the arts,” he said.

According to the minister, the operationalisation of the school had already started with the recruitment of teachers and the designing of the curriculum for the school.

He said players from the industry were helping the government to design the curriculum, while the Ghana Education Service (GES) would facilitate the recruitment of teachers.

Hub

The Member of Parliament for Kwadaso who accompanied the Minister, Dr Kingsley Nyarko, also expressed his appreciation to the government for selecting Kwadaso to host the school.

He said the school would serve as a hub to train and develop the skills of players within the creative industry and also to unearth many more talents for the country.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on December 1, 2019, cut the sod for the construction of the first-ever Creative Arts Senior High School in the country at Kwadaso in the Kwadaso Municipality.
