The caretaker Minister of Education, Mr Lee Ocran, has advised students to constantly use dialogue to seek redress to their grievances, instead of going on demonstrations.

That, he said, was because with dialogue, they would be able to find solutions to their problems.

“Learn to solve problems through dialogue, instead of demonstrations,” he advised.

Mr Ocran gave the advice when the ministry presented a double cabin pick-up to the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) in Accra Tuesday.

The vehicle, valued at $35,000, is to facilitate the work of the union.

The ministry has already made available five rooms on the top floor of the Accra City Campus of the University of Ghana to be used by NUGS as offices.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), in its 2008 Manifesto, promised to provide offices for the union.

According to Mr Ocran, the offices would be renovated and handed over to the union to carry out its day-to-day activities to champion the cause of students across the country.

“All these are manifestations of a good relationship between the government and NUGS,” he said.

The caretaker minister commended the union for keeping students’ front peaceful.

The President of NUGS, Mr Andrews Kofi Gyan, accepted the minister’s challenge to use dialogue to find solutions to its problems.

He commended the government for providing offices and a vehicle for the union, adding that “in the 47-year history of NUGS, it could not even boast kiosks as offices”.

The thoughts of the minister concerning Ghanaian students, he said, were also laudable.

“We are most grateful to you,” Mr Gyan said.

He said the NUGS leadership had been able to resolve the internal disagreements in the union.
