Stay focused - Education Director advises BECE candidates

The 2021 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates currently awaiting their results have been urged to stay focused on their academic journey.

The Ayawaso West Municipal Director of Education, Ms Margaret Kaba, who advised them, encouraged them to invest their energy in academic and useful extra-curricular activities.

At the second graduation ceremony of the Accra College of Education (ATRACO) Demonstration School in Accra, she cautioned the candidates against acts that could affect their future.

“At senior high school, many of you will blossom into young adults and your youthful exuberance will be at its peak. Do not be pushed into any negative or ungodly behaviour.”

“Say a big no to all forms of bad behaviour because they will destroy the bright future ahead of you,” she advised them.

Academic success

The Headmistress for the school, Ms Doris Akosua Aku, said academic work had so far been impressive as the first batch of students clinched 100 per cent success in the 2020 BECE.

She said the school was rated first at the sub-metro School Performance Appraisal Meetings (SPAM) in 2020 and made many strides in various competitions in the past, taking the first positions in English, Mathematics and Science.

The SPAM is a platform for stakeholders in education to share ideas and discuss issues concerning teaching and learning and to set standards.

It also provides parents in each community with information on how their school performed.

“We have two trophies in English to our credit. It is a great joy to have won the Karthy Knowels Award - reading competition for the primary level,” she said.

Ms Aku said enrolment, which was 596 from the onset in 2017, had steadily risen to 1,033 in 2021.

She said the high demand for admissions after the peak of COVID-19 necessitated the creation of a third stream from basic one to basic six, and the subsequent relocation temporarily to the Accra University College (AcCE).
