St Louis Senior High School board inaugurated

A thirteen-member board of governors of the St Louis Senior High School in Kumasi has been inaugurated.

The board has as its chairman, Nana Adu Mensah Asare (Nana Amakomhene and Otumfour’s representative), and was sworn in by a Supreme Court Judge, Justice Mrs Jennifer Dodoo, who is also a past student of the school.

Concept

Addressing the members of the board, academic staff and students of the school, the Kumasi Metro Director of Education, Mr David Oppong, said the concept of a board of governors was based on the policy of community participation in education, as the activities of the school could not be divorced from the community, whose interest the school sought to serve.

Hence, he said the board members were expected to bring their experiences to bear on the management of the school.

Mr Oppong implored the new governing board to collaborate with authorities of the school to ensure that operations and projects of the previous board continued in the interest of staff, students and other stakeholders.

“Academic excellence of any school depends to a large extent, on discipline. I appeal to you as board members, to help the school authorities to maintain high level of discipline,” he said.

Continuity

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Ama Kyerewaa Benefo, said members of the outgoing board championed massive developmental projects under their tenure and thus called on the new ones to sustain the gains of their predecessors by doing more.

She appealed to the board to rally behind her to effectively manage the school.

“I expect to be directed when I am verging on the wrong path and also applaud me when I progress,” she said.

She assured the board of transparent administration and cooperation to ensure discipline among the students, as well as academic staff.

Mrs Benefo also appealed to the new governing board to help address challenges with accommodation for both teachers and students.

Board members

The board members include the representative of the GES Director-General, Mr Alex Conduah; the PTA representative, Dr Anthony Badu Peprah; teachers’ representative, Mr Benard Owusu Appiah Kubi, and Oforikrom Municipal Assembly representatives, Mr Kwame Owusu Basoah, and Mrs Ibok Ekpenyong Nas Oduro.

The rest are Catholic Church representative, Ms Dorcas Cecilia Ampadu; past students representatives, Ms Tagboto Afi Sarpong and Ms Lydia Lariba Bawa; non-staff representative, Ms Faustina Naah; board secretary, Ms Emelia Adusei, and the headmistress.
