Prof. Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo appointed Vice-Chancellor of UMAC

The Interim Council of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UMAC) has appointed Prof. Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo as the Vice-Chancellor effective December 1, 2022.

His appointment came after the 6th Regular Meeting of the council of the university held on November 30, 2022.

Until his appointment, Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo was the Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ). He is currently the Chairman of Vice Chancellors Ghana.

A statement issued by the Directorate of Public Affairs of the university said Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo was instrumental in turning around the fortunes of the institute into an enviable specialised institution in the training of journalists, public relations practitioners, as well as other professionals in the media and communication industry.

An astute academic with a solid leadership track record spanning over two decades of teaching and management in Ghanaian and foreign universities, Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo’s expertise is in Marketing, Communication, Crisis Communication and Public Relations.

The University of Media, Arts and Communication is the first public university established by an Act of Parliament (Act 1059) which merges three specialised institutions comprising the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), Ghana Institute of Languages (GIL) and National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI).

Other members of the team headed by Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo include Dr Janetta Sika Akoto, the acting Registrar, and Francis Obeng, acting Director of Finance.

Currently, Prof. Eric Opoku Mensah has been appointed the acting Rector of the GIJ, while Dr Samuel A. Nai and Dr Sampson Fenuku are the acting Rectors of NAFTI and GIL respectively.
