The Ghana Education Service has announced that preparations are well underway for continuing students of Obuasi Senior High Technical School to return to school next week after a temporary closure.
In a press release issued on Thursday, October 22, the Service said it is working to resume academic work for the affected students.
The school was temporarily closed to continuing students on 5 August 2026 following disturbances on campus.
The GES noted that first-year students have been in school since their reporting date on September 18, and management assured that arrangements are progressing for continuing students to return sometime next week.
However, the Service did not provide a specific reopening date, stating that further updates will be communicated when necessary.
Background
The closure followed unrest in which some students allegedly attacked the headmaster, Abdulai Zakaria, and vandalised school property. Six students were arrested in connection with the violence.
The prolonged closure has raised concerns about the academic progress of affected students, particularly final-year students preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
The GES had previously interdicted the headmaster pending investigations into separate allegations of sexual misconduct, and an interim replacement has been appointed to ensure administrative continuity at the school.
