NSMQ 2023: St. Louis stuns Adisadel as 9 Senior High Schools book places in quarter-finals (LIST)

In the opening day of the one-eighth stage of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) yesterday (October 11, 2023), nine Senior High Schools (SHS) successfully advanced to the Quarter Finals.

To earn a seed, schools must battle their way to the Quarter-final Stage, ensuring an automatic seed. This means that a school granted an automatic seed will skip the regional qualifiers and preliminary stages. Schools that did not win a seed, will still have an opportunity to qualify.

Wesley Girls Senior High School reasserted their dominance, clinching victory with a substantial 54 points. They outshone their rivals, Archbishop Porter Girls’ of the Western Region, who garnered 25 points, and Ghanata SHS, finishing at 24 points.

Meanwhile, Bishop Herman College secured their Quarter Finals spot with a commendable 37 points. They faced off against Adidome SHS and Ola SHS, with Adidome SHS scoring 31 points and OLA SHS falling short with 24 points.

Mpraeso SHS emerged victorious with 43 points, triumphing over Ghana National College, who concluded with 39 points, and Aggrey Memorial Zion SHS, trailing at 25 points.

In a standout performance, Achimota School exhibited their prowess with the highest score of the day, an impressive 66 points. Their competitors, Central Region’s Holy Child School, tallied 41 points, while Assin State College fell behind with 30 points.

Kumasi High School also secured a spot in the Quarter Finals, clinching victory with 40 points. They faced stiff competition from Okuapemman School, who trailed with 36 points, and Anlo SHS, finishing at 34 points.

Osei Kyeretwie SHS maintained their reputation, emerging victorious with 49 points. They faced off against St. Joseph Seminary SHS, who secured 29 points, and Notre Dame Girls’, who closed the contest at 27 points.

In a compelling match-up, St. Louis Senior High School qualified as a seed in the quarter-finals after accumulating an impressive 53 points. Their contenders, Adisadel College, experienced a surprising upset, finishing with 23 points, while Abuakwa State College lagged behind at 19 points.

Wesley Grammar School secured their Quarter Finals spot after skillfully answering a tie-breaker question, ultimately earning them the much-needed win with 33 points. They went head-to-head with Tema Methodist SHS, who concluded the contest with 31 points, and Swedru Secondary School, who finished at 28 points.

Lastly, Anglican Senior High School emerged victorious with a score of 40 points, narrowly surpassing Adventist SHS, Bantama, who finished with 39 points. St. Charles Minor Seminary faced a tough challenge and concluded the contest with 16 points.
