Mpasatia SHTS students tour ECG installation
About 160 students from the Mpasatia Senior High Technical School SHTS in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality have paid a one-day industrial visit to the Electricity Company of Ghana to acquaint themselves with the operations of the company.
The visit was to afford the students a practical experience of some of the things they have been taught in the classroom and also expose them to the real field of work.

It also afforded the students the opportunity to learn the uses of some of the equipment and experience at first hand the operations of the control room.
Operations
Welcoming the students, the Networks Planning Manager of ECG, Dr Joseph Essilfie, who explained the operations of the company to the students, took them through the various steps of the distribution of power.
He also introduced the students to some of the equipment used by the company in its activities such as relays, switches and switching systems, protection devices and the control system to detect faults.
Dr Essilfie took the opportunity to explain to the students why the region was currently experiencing erratic power supply.
According to him, the problem was a result of the load on its Bulk Power Supply point at Ridge and told the students that when the demand became high, some of the areas would have to be taken off, thus leading to the unannounced power outages.
On behalf of the company, the Kumasi West Manager of ECG, Mr John A. Bolingo, presented some hygienic items such as tissues, face masks, and hand sanitiser to the students.
Appreciation
The leader of the delegation, Mr Ferdinand Opoku Darko, was grateful to the company for making it possible for the students to visit the installation and also taking time to explain the operations of the company to them.
He said aside from providing them with practical experience of the world outside the classroom, it had ignited in them the desire to become engineers and technicians and also take up their studies seriously.
