He has taught at the University of Swaziland, University of Ghana and the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and supervised several PhD and M.Phil students.
Through this, he has contributed not only to the production of the next generation of scholars, but also, significantly, to knowledge.
In recognition of his excellent teaching and research record, he won the University of Ghana 2006 Best Teacher Award in the Humanities. He has also served as external examiner and assessor for several universities both locally and internationally.
Professor Ayee has published extensively and has to his credit 180 publications as books, chapters in books, journal articles, review articles and book reviews. He is a rated researcher by the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) and Ghana’s foremost and internationally well-known scholar in developmental public administration and policy.
He has collaborated with scholars of international repute and his publications are highly respected and widely cited by scholars all over the world.
The statement also announced appointment of Dr Samuel Akortey Akor as Deputy Rector (Academic and Student affairs) and Prof Emmanuel Kwabena Quansah as the Deputy Rector, Finance and Administration of the university.
Dr Akortey, 59, is a public health physician and a health systems consultant. He is a founding fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and has an MA in Health Policy, planning and management from the Nuffield Institute for Health Services Studies.
He has served in various capacities in the Ministry of Health and Ghana’s health sector.
Prof Quansah, on the other hand, is a Professor of law and holds an LLM from the University of London and was called to the bar in 1993.
The university expects the appointment of these high profile personalities as part of its faculty to boost the quality of teaching and learning at the school and also contribute to tertiary education delivery in the country, the statement said.
